Dealt In keeps as little as it can — just enough to sit you at a table with your people, or with someone new at an open table. Here's all of it.
Who can play
You must be 16 or over to play. We don't ask your age or check it — signing up is you telling us you are.
What we keep, and why
Your @username and your name at the table — so friends can find you, and the table can say whose go it is. Anyone who isn't your friend never sees your @username (below).
Your email — for three things only: getting you back in on a new phone, resetting your PIN, and finding your games if something goes wrong so we can fix it faster. We only ever email you a code when you ask for one. Never marketing. Never shared.
Your PIN — only as a scrambled hash. Nobody can read it back, us included. A code we email you is kept the same way, and works once, for 10 minutes. A memorable answer, if you set one before, is kept the same way too.
Your friends — who you've added, so they're in your circle.
Your games' moves — so a game picks up where it left off and the Board knows who's the shithead. Moves say nothing about you, so they stay. A game played on your phone — against the computer, or passed round between you — is sent to us after it ends, the next time you're signed in with signal: its moves, nothing more.
Chat — only while a game is running, and for 15 minutes after the game ends so you can congratulate or taunt each other. Then its chat is deleted.
The internet address your phone signs in from — only to stop anyone guessing PINs. After 31 days it's cleared, the next time anyone signs in.
A daily count of visits — how many visits came in each way (the front page, a friend's link, a seat link), how many saw each of the front page's three welcome pages, how many visits tapped to play a practice hand (and roughly how long the cards took to come: under 3 seconds, 3–10 or longer), how many practice hands on the front page got a first card played and got finished, how many made a first choice in the guided hand (and roughly how soon: under 10 seconds, 10–30, 30–60 or longer), finished it, and finished a second hand, and how many signed up, as one number a day. Nothing about you.
Your screen size — just the size (never your phone's make), so the tables fit. 90 days.
Notifications, if you said yes — the address your phone gave us to ring you on.
Feedback, if you send some — your words, and a name if you give one.
Who you've blocked, if you block someone — your id, theirs, and when.
Reports, if you report someone — see below.
Playing with new people
Open tables — a dealer can leave seats open, and anyone signed in can sit down. You only sit with someone new if you deal an open table or take a seat at one.
Your name — someone who isn't your friend sees a short name: your first name and the first letter of your last, like "Annie S.". Never your @username. At an open table everyone's name is short, friends too.
Friend requests — tap the name of someone you've sat with to send one. Your @username reaches them only when they accept your friend request (or you accept theirs).
Chat with new people — at a table with open seats it's set phrases only ("good game", "your go"…). Nobody can type there.
Block — they drop off your lists, their friend requests don't reach you, and you won't see each other's open tables. They aren't told.
Report — one tap and a reason from four: abusive chat, cheating, inappropriate name, or other. We keep who reported, who was reported, the game if you both sat at it, the reason, and the time — nothing typed. Only we see reports, and the person isn't told.
What we don't
No marketing email, ever — and we never share your email with anyone.
No ads, and no trackers.
Nothing loads from anyone else's website — every page, font and card comes from dealtin.cards. That's 0 third-party requests.
Dealt In runs on Cloudflare's servers.
Delete your account
One tap and your PIN, and you're gone: your name, username and email are wiped, your friends, your blocks and your notifications are deleted, and your chat in any game still running is blanked. A report you made, or one made about you, stays with us — just the ids, the reason and the time. Your moves stay in the games you played, under the name you sat at the table with, so everyone else's games still add up.
