The quick one, for 2 to 7 — you might know it as Crazy Eights. Get rid of your cards by matching the top of the pile. An eight switches the suit; when you're stuck you pick up. First out wins.
- One pack, no jokers. Everyone gets seven cards.
- The next card is turned over to start the pile. The rest is the stock, face down.
- The player left of the dealer goes first.
- Play one card that matches the top of the pile — the same suit or the same number.
- An eight goes on anything. When you play one you name a suit, and the next card has to match that suit (or be another eight).
- Or draw: take one card from the stock. That's your go — play passes on. You can draw even if you could have played.
- When the stock runs out, the pile (all but its top card) is shuffled to make a new one.
With 2s chase on (a setting on New game, off unless the host picks it): a 2 makes the next player pick up two. They can lay a 2 of their own instead, and then the one after picks up four — then six, then eight. Only a 2 answers a 2, one at a time; picking up the lot ends your go.
50an eight — don't get caught holding one.
10a jack, queen or king.
1an ace.
2 – 10everything else, its own number.
- Play your last card and the game's over — you won.
- Everyone else is placed by the points left in their hand, fewest first. The winner takes the crown.
- If there's nothing left to draw and everyone in turn has to pass, the game is blocked and the points decide it there.
On the felt: the pile's top card sits in the middle with the suit in force beside it (when an eight named one, it says so). On your go a card you can't play sits dim; Draw is always there. If someone leaves mid-game the rest play on around their seat.
